IP Unity Announces Partnership with AppTrigger to Deliver True TDM-IP-SIP Network Transparency for Mobile Operators

3GSM World Congress 2006, BARCELONA, SPAIN. February 13, 2006 – IP Unity, the leader in carrier–grade media servers, application servers and real-time multimedia applications, announced today its partnership with AppTrigger, a provider of carrier-grade VoIP Service Delivery Gateways (SDGs), to provide fully transparent service delivery across legacy TDM, broadband, next-generation IP and SIP-enabled IMS mobile network infrastructures.

IP Unity delivers its high-density, highly scalable and powerful Mereon™ 6000 Media Server to mobile operators who need messaging, voice-activated dialing, prepaid, interactive voice response, conferencing and new rich media applications. The AppTrigger Ignite’s unique combination of application control, signaling protocol translation, and media gateway functions enhances the Mereon 6000 Media Server and its multiple rich-media applications such as voicemail, unified messaging, conferencing and prepaid. These solutions deliver services over TDM, IP, and blended networks while reducing overall solution costs and complexity.

The first carrier networks to benefit from this partnership are the greenfield mobile networks of Telebarta and HITL in South Asia. Two additional large Asian operators, not yet announced, are deploying the companies’ joint solutions. Their subscribers will have a seamless user experience for messaging applications across TDM and broadband wireless networks.

“This partnership has been created to support our efforts in both the wireless domain and legacy voicemail replacement,” stated IP Unity CTO Keith Bhatia. “In wireless, IMS will be deployed in an evolutionary manner, rather than flash-cutting from its heritage in 2G, CDMA and TDM. For the next several years, existing mobile networks must have interfaces to multimedia applications being deployed for next gen networks, such as video sharing, video chat, video conferencing, video mail and network gaming, as well as to support enhancement in voice-based services. This ensures that wireless customers will have seamless access to all new applications, regardless of where their calls and endpoints originate in the carrier’s networks.”

“IP Unity has recognized the value of leveraging the network connectivity capabilities of our Service Delivery Gateway (SDG) to allow their internal development resources to focus 100% on creating differentiated service offerings,” said AppTrigger CTO Randy Waters. “These deployments exemplify the value of the SDG concept. Together our companies have been able to capture opportunities that would have been difficult to capture alone. This is precisely what we envisioned when we created our SDG, combining our communications network expertise with our partners’ services expertise to deliver flexible solutions to more markets in less time.”
